The Data Scientist is part of the Business Development Team and reports to the Head of Business Development. Together with senior executives, the Strategy and Analytics team works on key topics for Action such as: Sustainability, Digitization, Expansion, Supply Chain and more. Together with your team members you support in driving data-driven decision-making across the organization. The Data Scientist will play a pivotal role in leveraging data to enhance the retail operations, customer experiences, and overall business strategy. This role involves developing predictive models, and performing advanced statistical analyze to uncover actionable insights from vast datasets. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the retail industry, strong analytical skills, and experience working with large data sets.
Your work field is very dynamic, but in general involves tasks such as:
Data Collection and Processing: Gather, clean, and preprocess data from various sources, including point-of-sale systems, CRM, e-commerce platforms, and external data sources.
Data Visualization: Create clear and effective data visualizations to communicate complex insights to non-technical stakeholders.
Experimentation: Design and conduct experiments to test hypotheses and validate models. Implement testing measures to evaluate the impact of different strategies.
Performance Monitoring: Monitor and evaluate the performance of models and algorithms, making adjustments as needed to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Research: Stay updated with the latest developments in data science and machine learning, and apply this knowledge to improve the organization’s data capabilities. An example of a use case may be sales forecasting (i.e. building predictive models to forecast sales, identify trends, and optimize inventory levels or location planning).
Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, sales, operations, and finance teams to understand their data needs and provide analytical support.
Your work location will be our International Head Office in Zwaagdijk (a 30 minutes traffic free drive from Amsterdam).

What you bring:
Strong understanding of data/statistical analysis and modeling techniques.
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field.
Familiarity with retail analytics, including sales forecasting, inventory, and customer behavior analysis.
Proficiency in data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, R, and data visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau or similar.
Experience with the Azure Data platform and/or (Azure) Databricks is a pre.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in data science, preferably within the retail industry.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Strong project management skills.
Strategic, analytical thinker with the ability to see the big picture.
