This position is an integral member of the global tax department that is made up of approximately 80+ tax professionals in 10 countries. More specifically, this position is part of the Tax Planning and Counsel team at LyondellBasell which is a collection of 20+ individuals located in different countries working diligently to comply with our Company’s tax policy requirements and to enhance shareholder value. This team is responsible for the global tax restructurings, M&A and internal tax advisory to businesses inclusive of transfer pricing matters. In order to achieve our goals, we work closely together with the business and other corporate functions such as Treasury, Legal, Accounting and HR.
This role reports into the Manager – Global Transfer Pricing located in Rotterdam. The role will be responsible for providing transfer pricing advice to business segments and functions while also leading related compliance activities and risk assessments within the European region, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and colleagues within Tax globally.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified tax professional who has previously gained experience in and knowledge of a similarly structured global organization (e.g. Big 4 Accounting and/ or Industry). Working within a global transfer pricing team, the role is a part of a much larger global department and the candidate will be required to interact and liaise with colleagues around the world.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain relationships with various business segment leaders in the region through:
Reviewing and coordinating transfer pricing guidelines to ensure consistent application of arm’s-length principles;
Frequent touchpoints with business representatives facilitating upfront interactions in structuring internal and external transactions with efficient and compliant transfer pricing designs;
Review intercompany transactions for the applicable countries/region of responsibility:
Independently review and test the transactions to determine whether adjustments are necessary to the transfer pricing guidelines and processes for accurate and timely implementation;
Understand and map relevant product and service flows and related key activities and decision-makers in support of transfer pricing principles, with a focus on the Company’s single-seller sales model transacting in Europe;
Monitor intercompany transactions and identify opportunities for enhancing the transfer price established;
Manage review of multi-jurisdictional branch profit calculations in line with agreed transfer pricing methods and formulas, ensuring proper cross-charges to legal entities, maintaining proper documentation in support of future potential audits in the impacted locations;
Pro-actively managing the vendor for the transfer pricing compliance documentation for the European region:
Ensure full compliance with local country documentation requirements including any specific penalty protection provisions;
Perform detailed analyses of transfer pricing methods employed and evaluate whether such methods are appropriate under local and OECD standards, assessing risks and potential mitigation strategies;
Review and maintain contemporaneous audit-ready transfer pricing documentation, communicating and collaborating with country tax managers to ensure local requirements are adequately addressed;
Assist in handling transfer pricing related tax audit requests led by local Country Tax Managers including advising on strategic responses with a regional and global view of Company transfer pricing policies;
Develop and maintain relationships with colleagues in Finance and Supply Chain organizations to stay informed of changes impacting internal transfer pricing processes and compliance requirements;
Monitor transfer pricing tax law changes in the European region, communicating potential impacts through clear and concise written memoranda;
Assist in maintaining SOX controls, including any revisions to processes and quarterly validations.
This is who you are
Typically 8+ years work experience within the Big Four or corporate multi-national environment with focus on transfer pricing related transactions, primarily in the European region;
Experience collaborating with colleagues in cross-functional teams;
Degree in Tax or equivalent level of education (Bachelor or Masters).
